We Like Ike

"Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes that you can do these things. Among them are a few Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or businessman from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid."

----President Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1952

Typical quote someone drags up to try to make the GOP look stupid or like they're doing something they're not.

"...abolish social security". Excuse me? Who's doing that? Bush is trying to adjust it, just as every single one of his predecesors have pledged to do and, in some cases, did.

"..abolish...unemployment insurance...". Again, this is in left field. Clinton, not Bush, made sweeping changes to the federal welfare system imposing limitations. Most government unemployment insurance programs are run at state levels and vary widely.

"...eliminate labor laws and farm programs". Again I ask, who's doing that? Bush and Congress have proposed and implemented changes to both programs but "eliminate"?

So both of you left-wing pinheads are endorsing a quote that has no bearing on the plans of the current Administration. And you all call right-wingers "idiots".

Side note: Eisenhower was not well thought-of for a long time and only in the past 10 years have people began to appreciate his presidency.
