Not politics, exactly, but...

...still pretty disgusting. (h/t BoingBoing)

At online pharmacy walgreens.com, for instance, the price for 30 tablets of a 20-milligram dose of Merck & Co.'s Zocor is $149.99, compared with $89.99 for simvastatin, the generic version. And last week, the same dose of simvastatin cost $108.99 at CVS's Web site, compared with $154.99 for Zocor. After a call from a reporter, CVS said it would drop its simvastatin price to $79.99, as part of an "ongoing price analysis."...

To be sure, even for the uninsured, generics still typically cost less than their branded counterparts. And at big clubs such as Costco Wholesale and Sam's Club, out-of-pocket prices for generics do generally plummet. Simvastatin costs $6.97 for 30 pills of the 20-milligram dose at a Sam's Club for which the company provided price information....

Charles Burnett, senior vice president of pharmacy at Costco, says the company can acquire the 30-tablet, 20-milligram dose of simvastatin for $2.71.

I see it differently. What this article is actually showing is how the market is evolving in a very positive way for the consumer. Just think, you didn't have CostCo and Sam's Club a few years back and drugs were all expensive. Here in Florida, Wal-Mart is trying a program where virtually all prescription generics are $3 or some other ridiculously price.

I think also that the traditional drugstore chains are in deep kimchee because they have relied on the huge margins on generics that they artificially maintain.

Ok, you see? This is the difference between conservatives and liberals. There are issues we can legitimately disagree on.

Bush trying to destroy the country is _not_ a conservative/liberal or Democrat/Republican issue -- it's something altogether different, and we should all stand against it.

That was a weird comment. Did you agree or disagree with my comment?

As to Bush "destroying the country" - that's your opinion and, wow, that came out of left field - no pun intended

I read the article, I see "Pharmacies are gouging the consumer."

You read it, and see "Competition is forcing down prices."

That's a liberal-conservative difference.

Authoritarian Presidents, on the other hand, are everyone's enemy, whether you're liberal or conservative. "A dictatorship would be a heck of a lot easier, there's no question about it..."

I did say "artificialy maintain huge margins". Isn't that the same as price-gauging?

But the market is correcting itself via price-competition. That's better than the government stepping in.

Hey, that dictator quote was a joke from 6 years ago! Sheesh.

Yeah, it sounded like a joke at the time, but....
