An O'Rourke Moment

Greatest political satirist alive...

"The second item in the liberal creed, after self-righteousness, is unaccountability. Liberals have invented whole college majors--psychology, sociology, women's studies--to prove that nothing is anybody's fault. No one is fond of taking responsibility for his actions, but consider how much you'd have to hate free will to come up with a political platform that advocates killing unborn babies but not convicted murderers. A callous pragmatist might favor abortion and capital punishment. A devout Christian would sanction neither. But it takes years of therapy to arrive at the liberal view." -- P.J. O'Rourke

Bzzzt. It does not advocate killing babies: it advocates not forcing women to live with the consequences of someone else's actions. I'd be much happier if there never needed to be another abortion, but until women can ovulate at will, I don't think we'll get to that point.

I think needing one in the first place is a huge tragedy. But suggesting that removing some undetectable-to-the-eye cells is killing the unborn is what is outrageous. And equating it to captital punishment is absurd. Women who cannot afford to bring an unwanted pregnancy to term ARE being accountable.

Let's try being honest here. In some cases abortion is killing a few tiny cells. In other cases it's a much more developed fetus. So you're right part of the time but also wrong part of the time.

Personally, abortion is an issue I won't touch with a ten-foot pole because either position is dictating some form of morality on someone else.
