Juan Cole has such a depth of knowledge of the reason and is quoted by the left and the right.
Includes the leaked document in full.
It is time to start talking about the Office of Special Plans.
er, region on reason.
It's not all over the media because it's old news, IMHO. There's nothing in this leak we didn't already know.
I wouldn't act all shocked and surprised. This sort of clandestine war planning and support has been going on forever.
Look at Roosevelt's Lend-Lease Act which was a clear violation of international neutrality laws. Also,
Roosevelt's Pacific policy was, through embargoes and other diplomatic initiatives, to goad the Japanese into doing something aggressive, hence the 1937 strategic trade embargoes.
The only conflict in US history which was completely unplanned and fought solely on principles was World War One...and that was mainly due to Wilson's avowed pacifism.
The only possible undeniable prevarication I see is when he claimed before March of 2003 that he wasn't planning on war. And I'd like to see some quotes of his from Sept 2001 to Mar 2003 to confirm that.
Now, if you can find me some quotes that are, in perspective, bald-face lies with an intent to deceive then I'll sign whatever impeachment petition you wish.
I don't want to rehash the whole WMD garbage because it's old crap.
