Terrorism - whom should we fear the most?

Terrorism

It starts:
Stop it, stop it right now. Stop pretending Islamicists - or environmentalists or animal rights activists (which are, ridiculously, federal law enforcement and non-governmental terrorism-watchers' next most obsessive concern) - are the only imminent terrorist threats to our nation. We now know that students at Liberty University were ready to napalm protesters at Jerry Falwell's funeral. One of the suspects is a soldier at Fort Benning. [UPDATE: Falwell gave the kid a scholarship.]

Whom should we fear the most...errr...my money goes with the guys who've already killed 3000+ Americans in terrorist attacks.

Any group promoting violence as a solution should be carefully watched. I agree with that.

But some of the rest of author's opinions are ludicrous.

And how many Americans has Project Rescue killed? Honestly, I'm worried more about a random clinic bombing than a terrorist attack...

Project Rescue? Oooo...a blast from the past. Yeah, they were (are?) a sick bunch.

I'm worried about any act of mass violence. A clinic bombing might, worst case, take out a couple of hundred. An nutcase from the Middle East could take out thousands.

In summation, I'm not worried about whether or not a violent group is right or left wing. I'm worried about the intent and the ability to inflict terror.

This reminds me of the apocryphal story about Churchill at a party. He asks a woman if she’d sleep with him for a million pounds. She says yes. Then he asks if she’ll sleep with him for 10 pounds. She huffs “absolutely not! What do you think I am?” He responds “We’ve already settled that. Now we’re just discussing price”.

Whether it’s one death or thousands, terrorism is defined by motive.

This is a case study of domestic terrorism... had this been a Muslim, all of the resources of the media across the country would have been dedicated to following it non-stop for at least three days, but a Christian fundamentalist extremist...? oh, no--o-o-o-oooo...

Great quote, Suze.

It's important to note that Churchill was a warmongering pariah in Britain until 1940 when they realized he was right all along.

As to your other point....I can't disagree. The Falwell situation should have received at least as much attention as the New Jersey one.

But, hey, the media is essentially sensationalist and gives more attention to what they think will attract attention. It's hard to hold a yardstick to them - one day I'll be pissed and the next you will.
