Worst Poll Numbers Ever Across the Board

Gallup reports that approval ratings for Congress are polling at the lowest level ever recorded by that orgranization. 14%.

On a specific issue, immigration, it gets even worse. According to a Zogby poll, Congress gets 3 (yes, THREE) percent support (Bush gets 9%). Wow. With a 1.1% margin it may even be worse.

Meanwhile, those wondrous students of honest criticism, Kos, killed a lot of innocent pixels today (I stole that phrase from Garrett) chortling about Bush's 26% rating; of course without mentioning how badly, much worse than Bush, the Democratic controlled Congress is viewed.

Way to go American people! You elect a bunch of clowns who are thought of even more badly than the clowns they replaced.

Hey you idiot! The Gallop poll is totally worthless and only refers to "great deal" or "quite a lot" of confidence. Of course, SludgeReport decided to fabricate this with following headline which later they were forced to retract: Confidence in Congress at all time low: 14%...

If only Gallop had phrased the question as “Do you have confidence in Congress?” when they originally started doing this poll, but now they’re stuck with it only so they can do historical comparisons.

Of course, you didn’t bother to show a more accurate assessment of public sentiment with Congress that also came out today with new Newsweek poll:

Congress Approval:
Approve: 25%
Disapprove: 63%
Don’t Know: 12%

Wow, 25%. I'm impressed. And if that poll came out today how was I supposed to comment on it yesterday?

Now, explain to me how the Newsweek poll is more accurate when Gallup is not only, arguably, the most respected polling company in the country but they've been asking the same poll question since 1973.

So, you're saying it's better to take the results of a poll where the question is "cooked"?

That's either disingenuous or stupid. How that makes me the idiot I can't fathom.

Both polls came out the same day, but you probably didn’t read that. And like the SludgeReport, you mischaracterized the results when you said “approval ratings”, when in fact it was “a great deal of confidence”. There is a huge difference. It is interesting in the Newsweek poll that Bush has both a higher approval and disapproval rating than Congress.

I have nothing against Gallop, but this poll is just plain bad and they know it. They've been asking the same question since 1973 so can't change it now otherwise they would have no basis for comparison.

How exactly is the Newsweek poll cooked? The question could not be any simpler! I suggest you a basic statistics class.

Hunter: You are correct on one issue. I misstated the 14% as being an approval rating. It's actually the percentage of people who think Congress is doing a good job and so not exactly the same.

Good catch.

However, why the psychosis over the DrudgeReport? Did I mention them? Link to it? No, I posted links directly to the polling reports.

But these are small potatoes details over what I was drawing focus to: Americans dislike the current group of Congresscritters as much as the last group.

I think there is one ABC poll that puts Congressional approval in the high 40s but they must have been questioning crack-smokers because all other polls are in the 20s.
